Insomniac Events is currently having one of its largest festivals in the world - EDC, and this redesign could be a great feature for its ravers.. The Insomniac app redesign highlights specific features on the current app while also implementing features that encourage user retention and experience.
The redesign allows an easier navigation flow to see their favorite artists and events. User retention is also improved with more articles and accessibility.
Users can see photos, lineups, and other details inside each specific event.
This redesign's new feature organizes artists at the event by the type of music and genre that they're most known for - allowing new ravers a better understanding for a greater experience.
The Redesign's mark feature allows the user to be notified minutes before the DJ's set.
Insomniac events is an EDM venue company that holds events, raves, and festivals for ravers and EDM listeners. One well-known festival is EDC Las Vegas, one of the largest electronic music events in the world
There are many features of the current Insomniac App that are useful in function. However, its usability and simplicity is overshadowed by the lack of aesthetic and organization.
Organization should also be targeted on this implementation. Features like lineup, location, are not visible on the current app.
My persona was a regular festival goer, who understands most of the artists and what type of music they play. However, her pain points inlcude not being able to find the right artists in a small time-frame.
Creating a persona that contains many frustrations of ravers allowed more focus on Insomniac's user-centered problems.
Grouping and organizing the tabs were also a focus of the redesign. Although the current Insomniac app did organize the artists by time, the amount of depth that was put into seemed at minimal. The app doesn’t explicitly organize the artists by stage and genre, which are very important for the everyday raver.
It would be a great way for new ravers to get an idea of the DJ’s they expect to see.
I decided to organize the events further on the events and featured page. The current Insomniac app is an endless scroll of events, without labels. So, I decided to add a feature and UI element that divides the events for a personal experience. It felt needed that a raver who is based in LA doesn’t necessarily need to see raves in Texas or Oregon.
I was able to implement the save feature and filter artists by genre. Clicking or swiping on the artist would save and notify the user when the DJ starts to play.
However, my usability testers gave the realization that the save function, and other buttons, weren't intuitive nor understandable.
Instead of simply relying on user intuition, I decided to guide the user by adding the label ‘mark’ to each artist. It was found that users were easily able to read and understand the meaning behind the feature. Using the correct spacing, I was able to implement this label without cluttering the UI.
